West Highland White, Floppy Ears

Don't worry if your pup has floppy ears, they will soon pop up when he gets a little older. However make sure there is not heavy hair holding them down, you should keep the hair trimmed short both inside and outside the ears.

Dogs with floppy ears are naturally predisposed to ear problems because of poor circulation within the ear canals, build up of humidity and the tendency for many floppy eared dogs to have hair growing within the ear canals.

These breeds include spaniels, springers, labrador and golden retrievers.

The West Highland White ears, are short straight and pointed, I have seen a few photos of Westie's with long fluffy hair, although its not necessary to make your Westie into a show dog, it is important to keep the hair very short, especially inside where a build up can lead to infections.

Keep it short !
