Developed in the border country of England and Scotland to hunt and kill foxes that were preying on livestock

Developed in 19th-century England for fighting other dogs in pits. Created by crossing the bulldog, with a terrier.

Airedale Terrier

The largest of the terriers, probably descended from the otterhound and an extinct black-and-tan Old English terrier.
