Sir Edwin Henry Landseer

Sir Edwin Henry Landseer 1802-1873 was renowned for his paintings of dogs, which often seem to have human qualities.

Landseer profited more from selling the rights to his engravings than he did from the actual paintings on which they were based.

The steel engravings from The Works of Sir Edwin Landseer, Illustrated by Forty-Four Steel Engravings and About Two Hundred Woodcuts from Sketches in the Collection of her Majesty the Queen and Other Sources

One of those paintings shown here is the 1839 picture called "The breakfast party" showing several highland terriers and a bloodhound.
