Barking Dogs
One of the biggest problems that can cause a lot of arguments with dog guardians
and neighbours is a dog who simply won't stop barking. Unfortunately
your Westie's instinct is to bark, that's what dogs do. Understanding why your
dog barks makes it easier for you to control barking. The instinct itself is
imposable to break, but "when he barks" can be modified.
Chasing toys around
all day long while they wait for the family to come home just leads to boredom and
barking sets in. Many people who want dogs for protection get annoyed when the dog barks at the doorbell.
Your protective Westie is going to announce the arrival of strangers. Some
individual Westie's are fearful and need to be shown there is nothing to be
afraid of.
Some Westie's develop they're own style of barking habits, it is your task to
come up with a solution to the problem. Some guardians have reported their
dog barks when they first come downstairs and enters the room, when a
quick solution would be to call the dog when coming downstairs.
