Barking Dogs

When your dog barks, use the command "Bark" followed by praise. As soon as he understands this connection and barks on command you can start using "No" to stop him. Get your Westie's attention by placing a few dried peas in an empty tin, give the tin a good shaking when he starts to bark to distract him.

If your dog runs along the fence barking at people or other dogs, install a higher fence so he cannot see them through it. Quit a few homes have televisions, radio, hi-fi playing, but turn them all off when they leave the home, the silence to your Westie can be too much. Leave a radio playing for your Westie...

Get your Westie to have a good bark now and then, but stop him with the NO command after a few barks.

Take him away from other people and let him run around barking to get it out of his system.
