Taking your medicine
From time to time you
need to give your Westie some tablets, getting your wise Westie to take his/her
medicine is no easy task. You should start with a regular routine, opening your dogs mouth to examine his teeth and
gums.
Once your Westie is accustomed to this and feels no discomfort you can use this
training to administer a tablet. Praise is always a good thing when you need to examine him, finding nothing out of
the ordinary and saying "good boy" will always encourage your Westie and help him/her
feel secure.
You just threw some money onto the garden fire, you need to get it off without burning your
fingers, well almost as fast you need to place the tablet into the back of the dogs
throat and remove your finger before it causes aggravation. Take too long and your dog
may choke and cough up the tablet.
NEVER force a dogs mouth open, taking to him at the same time will help a great
deal. Now the mouth is open place the tablet into the back of the throat and slightly
to the right guiding it with your thumb and drop it. You should not hit the back of
the throat with the tablet, it should be dropped a little before.
