Cane Toads
I
provide this information primarily for Australian citizens, However if you have
this species in your country, I would like to hear from you also. The cane toad was
introduced many years ago to control the cane beetle, and other undesirable pests. However
it soon become known that the cane toad itself had become a bigger pest.

These
toads produce a toxin, a thick yellowish saliva from the small
openings in the neck if one of these toads are squeezed. All dogs are at risk particularly
in summer when the toads are seen hopping as dusk. Dogs picking up the toad in the mouth,
squeeze them, This will force the toads to expel the toxin into the dogs mouth.
Symptoms,
Dogs drool excessively, turn blue or have fits. The poison
produced is fast acting, which can produce serious heart
irregularities, If you suspect your dog has come in contact, wash its mouth continually with water,
taking care to wash both the inside of the mouth and its gums. Contact your vet straight
away.
