Roundworm
Dispose of any worms properly by burning or flushing down the WC. Never place
them on a compost heap nor dig them into the soil as the eggs can survive for
many years in the soil and are resistant to disinfectant.
Children who come in contact with this worm are at risk, the worm does not
normally developed into an adult but can settle in sensitive tissue such as the
retina at the back of the eye and in some cases can lead to impaired vision.
Toxascaris Leonona, A round worm white in colour very similar to Toxocara canis the life cycle of
this worm is simple, Infection occurs by ingestion of the eggs which then go on
to hatch in the stomach of the dog. The larvae will go on to develop in the
stomach and intestine. Unlike the Toxocara canis they do not migrate and are not passed
via the mothers milk to young puppies.
